MRELD1

M’Reld has performed at distinguished venues across the country from the Nuyurican Café to the House of Blues Chicago, and several locations in between M’reld also had the distinguished opportunity to perform on Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam, officially earning the title of Def Poet. And last year she starred on the recently released 4th season of BETJ’s Lyric Cafe. Currently on tour with Adam’s Rib, a Spoken Word ensemble of women poets and artists, founded by Tony Award Winning 10x Def Poet Georgia ME, M’Reld is lighting fires in venues across the country this summer.

Her powerful words and dynamic stage presence set the match for the poetry vs. spoken word debate.
Let the games begin.

Whoa! So, Where’s ASHTON? X TOP NEWS: BED INTRUDERS IN THE SUBWAYS?

All I want to say is. If you go in the station and the MTA employees are wearing face masks, you need to do like A. Dobson and hide ya kids, hide, and hide your husbands too because they raping everybody out. Don’t believe me just google. -The Street Blogger

The New York City Police Department announced Wednesday that it will deploy, then track, what it calls “harmless” gases into the city’s subway system over three non-consecutive days this summer.
The plan, to be enacted in July, will investigate New York’s readiness to handle a chemical terrorist attack by dispersing the colorless gas and tracing it as it flows through the city, according to Scientific American. The test is expected to cost $3.4 million and is scheduled to be carried out in all five boroughs and dozens of stations on 21 of the city’s 34 subway lines.

The NYPD works for the best but plans for the worst when it comes to potentially catastrophic attacks such as ones employing radiological contaminants or weaponized anthrax,” police commissioner Ray Kelly
said in a statement.
The police will use roughly 200 detectors to monitor the gas. Dubbed the Subway-Surface Air Flow Exchange, the test will be the largest of its kind and organized in cooperation with the energy department’s Brookhaven National Laboratory. They’ll use perfluorocarbon tracer gases (PFTs), which are frequently used to measure potential sites for underground construction.
Despite the science fiction catastrophe a plan of this magnitude naturally conjures, Fernando Ferrer, the acting chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority maintained that it will not impact commuters.
The NYPD, in partnership with the MTA, is responsible for keeping more than 5 million daily subway customers safe and secure,” he said in a statement Wednesday. “This study will bolster the NYPD’s understanding of contaminant dispersion within the subway system as well as between the subway system and street, thereby improving its ability to better protect both customers and the city population at large.”
The scheduled gas deployment comes years after investigators foiled an Al-Qaeda terrorist plot to bomb the New York subways, the largest public transportation system in the world. Three men had planned to detonate suicide vests just days before the eighth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in what US Attorney General Eric Holder at the time called “one of the most serious threats” to the United States since 2001.

Treasury Dept. says Beyonce, Jay-Z Cuba trip was sanctioned after lawmakers question legality

Blogging THIS one to say… aint nobody immune, Lol. Enjoy! - The Street Blogger

beyjay

Beyonce and rapper husband Jay Z visited Havana last week on a cultural trip that was fully licensed by the United States Treasury Department, according to a source familiar with the trip.

The pair apparently traveled legally to the Communist-ruled island legally and did not violate the half-century-old US embargo against the Communist-ruled island, according to Reuters.

The long-standing US trade embargo against Cuba prevents most Americans from traveling to the island without a license granted by the US government, though President Obama’s administration has eased restrictions on travel to Cuba for academic, religious or cultural programs.

Over the weekend, Republican lawmakers questioned of the musical duo were in violation of the half-century-old US embargo against the Communist-ruled island.

The recording industry’s most powerful couple was photographed spending their fifth anniversary in Havana, drawing the ire of US Reps. Illeana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart, both Republicans from south Florida.

“As you know, US law expressly prohibits … tourist activities in Cuba,” the Florida Republicans wrote in a letter to the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.

“We write to express concern and to request information regarding the highly publicized trip by US musicians Beyonce Knowles-Carter (Beyonce) and Shawn Carter (Jay-Z) to Cuba. We would like to respectfully, within all applicable rules and guidelines, information regarding the type of travel that Beyonce and Jay-Z received, for what purpose, and who approved such travel.”

beyjay5While Americans are allowed to legally travel for US-approved work, academic and family purposes, many more simply get to Cuba by going through Mexico, Canada or another Caribbean nation.

Cuban customs authorities, aware of Americans taking this rule-breaking route, know not to stamp US passports at the airport.

Beyonce and Jay-Z have not explained how they got to Cuba and a reps for the musicians could not be immediately reached for comment today.

Page Six reported that the musical power couple, accompanied by their mothers, were mobbed by dozens of well-wishers at the La Guarida restaurant and police had to step in to keep the crowds at bay.

Restaurant staffers shared pictures with the Associated Press of Beyonce and Jay enjoying Cuban creole favorites, fish, chicken, black beans and rice.

Waitress Silvia Fernandez said Beyonce toured the eatery and looked at photos of past celebrity diners, like Jack Nicholson, Jodie Foster, Danny Glover, Will Smith, James Belushi and more.

Their bodyguards’ presence outside set the gritty, bustling neighborhood of Center Havana abuzz, and a crowd gathered downstairs shouting Beyonce’s name until she went to a balcony and waved.

beyjay4Police arrived and made sure she was able to exit without incident.

“She was beautiful, without a drop of makeup, very natural,” Fernandez said. “What happened with the people was incredible.”

On Thursday the couple toured colonial Old Havana wearing dark glasses and surrounded by bodyguards and excited fans. Beyonce posed for pictures with local schoolchildren while Jay-Z puffed on a Cuban cigar, and then they popped into another restaurant that boasts a rooftop terrace with a sweeping view of the harbor.

State-run Web site CubaSi called it a touristic visit.

MAN’E ILL: PROGRESSION IS A BLESSING

PROGRESSION IS A BLESSING…mane2

Man’E Ill is an emcee from Brooklyn, NY. He is best known for his witty wordplay, constant use of similes and metaphors, and a catchy chorus that ties them all together. Man’E also isn’t afraid to show vulnerability in his lyrics as a way of getting his listeners and supporters to gain a better sense of who he is as well as relate to him. He has put out a total of ten projects since 2007, the latest one being Progression Is A Blessing, his most  popular one. Whether the topic is fear of subconsciously conforming to what the majority of hip-hop sounds like now, his struggle to maintain creating unique music, dealing with past relationships as well as new ones, or just feeling the need to exemplify his lyricism, Man’E Ill is one of the most consistent and versatile artists Brooklyn has to offer and is definitely worth the listen.
